Why Detox?

Got Toxins?

Did you know that ongoing research suggests that the cause of many health problems may be associated with prolonged exposure to various toxic substances in our environment? In fact, these substances can come from industrial chemicals found in everyday sources such as; automobile exhaust and household cleaners, the foods we eat and drink, and incredibly our own faulty metabolism and detoxification systems.

Toxins in waterYou see, in our industrialized world we produce more and more potentially toxic compounds that can find their way into the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. To maintain good health, our body must rid itself of these dangerous substances by transforming and excreting them through the lungs, skin, kidneys and bowels. And unfortunately, not all of these harmful elements get excreted efficiently. In fact, some are circulated back into the bloodstream while others are stored in various body tissues such as body fat.

It’s probably obvious to you that there are certain foods that will burden the detoxification system, while other foods and nutrients help it. Simply stated, there are specific vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that have an extremely important role in influencing how well our body “cleanses” itself of harmful elements.

You may be familiar with some of these restorative therapies; such as wholesome nutrition programs, beneficial juices and teas, liver and colon cleansing regimens, and medicinal sauna and detox bath treatments. Most of these therapies have been adapted from the many cultures around the world who have believed for centuries that ridding the body of accumulated toxins could prevent the promotion of a variety of health problems. Western medicine has finally started to recognize detoxification as a vital body process, after largely ignoring or criticizing these techniques for years.

The bottom-line: our bodies have become inefficient at the detoxification process primarily due to the overwhelming levels of toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis. These toxins can build up in our body fat, joints, brain and various other tissues; potentially leading to a variety of health issues. The solution: adding periodic detox therapies to our lifestyle regimen that can assist our body’s natural detoxification process and help to counteract the deterioration of our overall health.
